Urology

Urology is the branch of medicine that deals with the urinary system i.e. kidneys, bladder, ureters, and urethra  and the male reproductive system, including the prostate gland. Urology problems quietly affect millions of people every year, yet most patients delay seeing a specialist far longer than they should.

The Centre for Renal Sciences at Felix Hospitals believes that urological problems, however sensitive or complex, deserve the same urgency, expertise, and compassion as any other health condition. Recognised as the Best Urology Hospital in Noida, Felix Hospitals offer a full spectrum of urological care, from everyday urinary concerns to advanced laser surgeries and dedicated dialysis services.

When to Visit a Urology Hospital in Noida

Most people set an internal threshold that  "if it gets worse, I'll go." The problem with urological conditions is that by the time they get noticeably worse, the window for simpler treatment has often passed.

Here are the signs that warrant a proper evaluation, not a wait-and-watch approach:

  • Blood in Urine (Haematuria) Even a single episode, even without pain needs investigation. Painless haematuria is one of the earliest signs of bladder or kidney conditions. It does not always mean something serious, but it always means something worth checking.

  • Burning or Painful Urination A burning sensation during urination is one of the most common urological complaints. It can point to a urinary tract infection, a kidney stone moving through the ureter, or in some cases an early prostate issue. Treating it as a passing discomfort without getting it checked is where most patients go wrong.

  • Kidney and Bladder Stones The pain from a kidney stone is described by many patients as among the worst they have ever felt  sharp, severe, radiating from the back into the lower abdomen. But not all stones are painful. Both the painful and the silent kind need attention before they cause permanent damage to the kidney.

  • Frequent or Urgent Urination Especially at night waking up two or three times a night to urinate is not a normal part of aging. It is often the first sign of an overactive bladder, an enlarging prostate, or a brewing infection which is worth getting checked.

  • Enlarged Prostate BPH (Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia) Difficulty starting to urinate, a thin or stop-start stream, or the persistent feeling that the bladder never fully empties are classic signs that the prostate is pressing on the urinary passage. BPH is extremely common in men over 50 and is very effectively treated when caught at the right stage.

  • Urinary Incontinence Leaking urine when you cough, sneeze, or laugh, or simply not making it to the bathroom in time is a medical condition. Many patients live with it for years unnecessarily because they assume it is just something to be endured.

  • Urinary Retention The complete inability to urinate is a urological emergency. If this is happening, do not wait, come in immediately or visit the nearest emergency department.

  • Testicular Pain or Swelling Any lump, unexplained pain, or change in the size of a testicle needs prompt evaluation. Early diagnosis is critical here, and most causes turn out to be non-cancerous but the ones that are serious are far better managed when found early.

  • Erectile Dysfunction This affects a significant proportion of men, especially after 40, and is far more common than the number of men who actually seek treatment. It is a medical issue with multiple effective treatment options available.

  • Male Infertility If a couple has been trying to conceive for over a year without success, a male fertility evaluation is often the missing step. Roughly half of all infertility cases involve a male factor, and many of these are correctable.

  • Recurrent Urinary Tract Infections Getting a UTI once is common. Getting them repeatedly, especially in women, often suggests an underlying structural issue in the urinary tract that no amount of antibiotics will fix on its own.

Procedures and Treatments at Felix Hospitals

We cover the full spectrum of urology, i.e. from a first-time kidney stone to complex reconstructive surgery. Here is a clear account of what we do and how.

KIDNEY STONE TREATMENT

Laser Lithotripsy (RIRS  Retrograde Intrarenal Surgery) A thin, flexible scope is passed through the natural urinary passage  without cuts or skin puncture. Once it reaches the stone inside the kidney, a laser breaks it into fine dust that passes out with urine. RIRS is ideal for stones lodged deep in the kidney. Recovery is fast and most patients go home the same day or the next morning.

PCNL (Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy) For larger or harder stones that laser cannot handle adequately, PCNL is the preferred approach. A small keyhole incision, roughly the size of a pencil tip, is made in the back, and the stone is accessed and removed directly. Despite how it sounds, this is a highly controlled procedure with a recovery timeline significantly shorter than open surgery.

ESWL (Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy) This process includes no incision, no anaesthesia, no hospital admission in most cases. High-energy shock waves are focused on the stone from outside the body, breaking it into fragments small enough to pass naturally through urine. Patients typically walk in, have the procedure done in under an hour, and leave.

URS (Ureteroscopy) When a stone is stuck in the ureter  the tube connecting the kidney to the bladder  ureteroscopy is the most reliable approach. A slender telescope is guided through the urethra and bladder to reach the stone, which is then broken up or retrieved. Well-established, with a strong track record.

Medical Expulsion Therapy Not every stone needs a procedure. Smaller stones, particularly those already moving through the ureter, can often be passed naturally with medication that relaxes the urinary muscles. We will tell you honestly when this is the right approach.

PROSTATE CARE

TURP (Transurethral Resection of the Prostate) The extra prostate tissue is removed through the natural urinary passage with no external incision. Most men report a dramatic improvement in urinary flow within two to three weeks.

Laser Prostatectomy  HoLEP and GreenLight Laser This is a newer-generation alternative to TURP that achieves the same result with significantly less bleeding and a shorter hospital stay. Particularly recommended for men taking blood thinners, or those with a very large prostate where TURP carries higher risk.

Prostate Biopsy When a PSA blood test or scan raises concern about the prostate, a biopsy confirms or rules out cancer. This procedure is guided by ultrasound for accuracy, done under local anaesthesia, and is typically completed within 20 to 30 minutes.

PSA Testing and Prostate Cancer Management We offer PSA screening as part of routine check-ups. For patients already diagnosed with prostate cancer, we provide full management from staging, treatment planning, and follow-up, that too under one roof.

BLADDER CONDITIONS

Cystoscopy and Bladder Biopsy A thin, flexible camera is passed gently into the bladder, allowing direct visual examination of the bladder lining. If anything looks abnormal, a tissue sample can be taken on the spot. Short procedure, typically done under local anaesthesia, gives information that scans alone cannot.

TURBT (Transurethral Resection of Bladder Tumour) When a bladder tumour is found, TURBT removes it through the urethra without any external cut. It treats the tumour and stages it at the same time  which guides what comes next.

Bladder Stone Removal Bladder stones cause painful urination, frequent urges, and sometimes bleeding. Using cystoscopic or laser techniques, we break them down and remove them usually in a single session.

Overactive Bladder Treatment An overactive bladder disrupts sleep, work, and social life. Treatment is personalised: bladder retraining, medication, and in cases that do not respond to these, Botox injections or nerve stimulation therapy. Most patients see meaningful improvement.

KIDNEY CARE AND DIALYSIS

Dialysis Services For patients with chronic or end-stage kidney disease, dialysis is the line of treatment. Our dialysis unit uses modern machines with trained technicians present throughout every session.

We offer two options:

  • New Dialyser Dialysis Each session uses a brand-new filter, the highest standard of hygiene and infection control.
  • Reused Dialyser Dialysis Dialysers are reprocessed under strict, medically approved safety protocols, making it significantly more affordable without compromising clinical safety.
  • Kidney Function Tests and Evaluation A straightforward blood and urine test that shows how well the kidneys are filtering waste. Early detection of declining kidney function  even before symptoms appear can slow disease progression considerably.
  • Management of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) CKD needs long-term management. Our nephrology team builds individualised care plans covering medication, dietary guidance and dialysis scheduling.

MALE UROLOGY AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH

Vasectomy and Vasectomy Reversal Vasectomy is among the safest and most reliable forms of permanent contraception available. If circumstances change, a vasectomy reversal can restore fertility in many cases. Both procedures are performed with full confidentiality.

Hydrocele and Varicocele Surgery A hydrocele is a fluid-filled swelling around the testicle. A varicocele is an enlargement of the veins in the scrotum both can cause discomfort and may affect fertility. Surgical correction is straightforward and brings lasting relief.

Circumcision Performed for medical, hygiene, or personal reasons in both adults and children. We ensure clear pre-procedure explanation, careful aftercare guidance, and a smooth recovery.

Male Infertility Evaluation and Treatment A thorough evaluation including semen analysis, hormonal testing, and physical assessment. Where a treatable cause is found, we provide targeted treatment and guide couples through next steps.

Erectile Dysfunction Management Treatment ranges from medication and lifestyle counselling to more advanced interventional approaches depending on the underlying cause.

Penile and Testicular Surgeries Including surgery for penile curvature (Peyronie's disease), testicular torsion repair, and other conditions requiring precise surgical management.

URINARY TRACT AND RECONSTRUCTIVE PROCEDURES

Urethral Stricture Treatment Scarring or narrowing of the urethra makes urination slow, painful, or near impossible in severe cases. We offer endoscopic treatment and open reconstructive options including urethroplasty, tailored to the location and severity of the stricture.

Pyeloplasty for UPJ Obstruction A blockage at the junction between the kidney and ureter can slowly and silently damage kidney function. Pyeloplasty removes this blockage  and when done laparoscopically, patients are typically home within two to three days.

Nephrectomy -Partial and Radical When a kidney tumour or severely damaged kidney requires removal, we perform both partial and radical nephrectomy using minimally invasive techniques wherever possible, preserving healthy tissue.

Ureteric Reimplantation When the ureter is damaged, blocked, or abnormally connected, reimplantation surgery restores the correct anatomy and protects kidney function long term.

MINIMALLY INVASIVE AND LAPAROSCOPIC UROLOGY

Laparoscopic Nephrectomy Kidney removal through tiny keyhole incisions rather than a large open cut. Less pain, shorter hospital stay, and a much faster return to normal activity.

Laparoscopic Pyeloplasty The same reliable pyeloplasty done laparoscopically. Patients are typically discharged within two to three days and recover in a fraction of the time compared to open surgery.
